Determination of Concrete Strength and Water to Cement Ratio by Using Pattern Recognition Techniques on Acousto-Ultrasonic Signals

A novel Non-Destructive Technique (NDT) for characterization of mortar and concrete is presented. It is based on an Acousto-Ultrasonic (AU) set-up while the analysis of the acquired waveforms after wave propagation through specimen thickness is performed by advanced pattern recognition techniques and a cross-correlation scheme in order to determine water to cement (w/c) ratio. Results indicate that w/c is evaluated with high resolution. In addition to that, AU characteristics exhibit strong correlation with strength.
